Charles Callender is a Marine Corp veteran and technical professional with a BS in Computer Science and an MBA with a focus in Operations. He has over 30 years of technical and business experience working in a number of industries. In addition to his collegiate experience, he holds a number of technical and professional certifications. While serving in the Marines from 1993 to 1997 he participated in a number of NATO operations including the rescue of Basher 52 in Bosnia, which later became known as Behind Enemy Lines.
Mr. Callender’s philosophy of patient first and patient focus has aligned him uniquely with a number of leading Dr.’s that subscribe to that same way of thinking. He believes in leveraging cutting-edge technology with streamlined processes to improve the end-to-end patient care model. His Six Sigma experience coupled with project management and technical knowledge has positioned Orvos Healthcare perfectly to provide quick and effective patient care through leveraging telemedicine methodologies.
Mr. Callender has 2 daughters Kaleigh and Savannah. Kaleigh is Summa Cum Laude from Mississippi State with a Masters in Accounting and Savannah is working on her Nursing degree. He enjoys traveling overseas and tries to spend time each year in Germany where he spent a number of years as a child. He is also an avid woodworker and builds things as a hobby.
Dr. Crawford is a Board Certified retina specialist who has been practicing ophthalmology for over 15 years. Prior to private practice, he proudly served as a physician in the US Army for 10 years, attaining the rank of Major. Dr. Crawford is passionate about health care and helping patients to have better access to health care services. He has conducted nearly 10 international surgical eye missions to those who cannot afford medical care. Dr. Crawford and his team have been successful at restoring sight to hundreds of blind patients.
After completing undergraduate studies at Washington University in St. Louis, Dr. Crawford was accepted as a Fulbright Scholar for Panama. Following the Fulbright Fellowship, he completed his Medical Degree at Michigan State University.
After having completed an Army Medical Scholarship, he had the opportunity to serve as OIC of the Pentagon Health Clinic in Washington DC. He was also accepted to serve as White House Aide. His internship and residency in Ophthalmology was completed at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma WA. His fellowship in Vitreo-retinal Disease and Surgery was completed at Tufts/OCB in Boston, MA. Dr. Crawford has the distinguished honor to be a board examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is active in the American Society of Retinal Specialists, and he as over 25 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Crawford is a proud husband to wife Dr. LaKiesha Crawford and father to daughters Cameron (5yo) and Casey (4yo). Much of his free time is spent enjoying daily adventures with his family, traveling, playing golf and ice hockey.
Dr. Brittany (Bree) Powell is a vitreoretinal surgeon currently practicing in the United States Navy. She is a cum laude graduate in biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. She then earned her medical degree from the Uniformed Services University. While in medical school, she was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Following her Transitional Internship at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD), she served as a Battalion Surgeon at First Marine Division as one of the first females assigned to a combat arms unit in the United States Marine Corps.
Dr. Powell completed an ophthalmology residency at NMCSD and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai in New York City. While a resident, she was selected by her peers and faculty to serve as Chief Resident and received the department’s annual research award. As a fellow, she was chosen by graduating residents for the program’s annual teaching award.
Dr. Powell is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Society of Ophthalmic Trauma, and the American College of Surgeons. She has authored book chapters and original scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals such as Ophthalmology Retina, Eye, and Clinical Ophthalmology. She has presented her research at national and international meetings. She is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists’ Education Committee and the American Society of Ophthalmic Trauma’s Board of Directors.
Dr. Powell’s clinical interests include retinal detachment repair, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal vascular disease, and the management of cataract surgery complications. As a military surgeon, she has a particular clinical and research interest in ocular trauma. She completed her tour as the Chief of Ophthalmology Services at A.T. Augusta Military Medical Center, where she was also the Associate Program Director for the Ophthalmology Residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in 2023. During this tour, she deployed on the USNS COMFORT to support Continuing Promise 2022. She is currently stationed in San Diego, overseeing NMCSD’s Regional Ocular Trauma Center while serving as Transitional Year Internship Associate Program Director.
Dr. Avneet K. Sodhi Gaur is a Board-Certified Fellowship trained Cataract, Refractive, and Glaucoma Specialist with training and experience developed at nationally renowned ophthalmic institutions, including Tufts Medical Center/New England Eye Center and Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston-Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Sodhi Gaur is a recognized expert in glaucoma and vision correction surgeries with numerous research & case report publications, lectured nationally, and has served as a media expert on ophthalmic conditions. She is an active member of numerous ophthalmic societies and has been featured in Angeleno Magazine 2019 Los Angeles Power Players section as one of the top extraordinary inspiring individuals and voted Los Angeles Top Doctors since 2020. She practices in Los Angeles and is the Director of Glaucoma and Managing Partner at Assil Gaur Eye Institute.
